What is MitesPlus?
MitesPlus is a partnership between Skatetown and Capital Thunder Youth Hockey to develop and prepare players at the 8U/Mite level for competitive travel hockey.
Who can participate in MitesPlus?
For the 2023-24 season, players with 2016 and 2015 birth years can participate. Players must be registered in Skatetown’s fall/winter youth league Mite program or Squirt/Peewee program.
How does MitesPlus work?
To maximize player development, players attend and participate in Skatetown’s youth league which includes one weekly practice and house league games on Sundays at Skatetown, as well as Thunder’s travel program that includes weekly practice, exhibition games, and NorCal jamborees.
What is the cost for MitesPlus?
Cost includes:
- Skatetown registration and fees for youth league fall/winter (typically $545 – however, the cost has not yet been set for the fall/winter league)
- Capital Thunder registration and fees ($1,100 last season)
- USA Hockey registration (approximately $35)
- Travel costs associated with games and jamborees (varies)
How can my player participate in MitesPlus?
For the 2023-24 season, Thunder registration begins May 26 and ends June 25. Players do not tryout but will be assessed by Thunder coaches at the first practice to ensure safety of the players. Skatetown registration is available on their website: Youth Hockey League (skatetown.biz). Players do not need to be pre-approved by the Skatetown youth league to participate.
MitesPlus is limited to 20 players.
When are practices and games?
Skatetown youth league Mites practice on Fridays at 5pm and games are on Sundays at 3:45pm. Skatetown youth league Squirt/Peewees practice on Monday evenings at either 5:15pm or 6:30pm and games are on Sundays at 1:45 or 3pm. The fall/winter youth league will begin in September and end March.
